![]() ![]() Men in STEM jobs see more advantage in working harder than others, being assertive, and being vocal about their accomplishments at work. 33 The Pew Research Center survey finds overall, men and women in STEM see behaviors that help or hurt them to get ahead in the workplace somewhat differently. Interviews with people working in STEM fields highlight the sometimes subtle ways that women feel they are treated differently at work. For the most part, men and women in STEM look for similar job qualities one notable exception is that 59% of women tend to value jobs that help others, compared with 31% of men. That flexibility is an important factor in choosing a job for both men and women in STEM, as well as those working in other areas. But roughly half of Americans say these jobs are difficult to get into, while only 18% believe careers in STEM have more flexibility for balancing work and family than jobs in other industries. About half or more of the general public – whether they are employed in STEM or non-STEM jobs – believe that STEM jobs pay better, attract more of the brightest young people and are more well-respected. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to multiple sources of error, including, but not limited to sampling error, coverage error, error associated with nonresponse, error associated with question wording and response options.Americans have mixed views of how careers in science, technology, engineering and math compare to jobs in other industries. Because the sample is based on those who initially self-selected for participation, no estimates of sampling error can be calculated. Respondents for this survey are selected from among those who have volunteered to participate in online surveys and polls. This survey was live on April 16-21, 2019. This report presents the findings of a Youth CARAVAN survey conducted by Engine among a sample of 1,004 13-17-year olds, comprising of 502 males and 502 females. JA's programs help teens better understand the connection between what they learn in school and how it will apply toward their future career goals. Junior Achievement delivers programs focused on promoting work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to students in grades K through 12. Very few (5%) anticipate working in an office over the summer. These are followed by outdoor work (17%) and babysitting/child care (14%). Top summer jobs include retail (26%) and food service (26%).However, more than two-thirds of 16- and 17-year-olds (69%) expect to have a summer job. Half of all teens (51%) expect to work this summer. While girls' interest in STEM careers like engineering, robotics and computer science declined, their interest in careers in the medical and dental fields increased to 25 percent, up from 19 percent in 2018.85 percent of teens say they know what kind of job they want after graduation, down slightly from 88 percent in 2018.Research shows that one-in-five Junior Achievement alumni eventually work in the same field as their JA volunteer. A way Junior Achievement is addressing this is by bringing STEM professionals into classrooms to deliver the organization's career-readiness programs. "One element that may need to be emphasized more is ensuring that STEM professionals are serving as role models and working with girls in educational settings as part of these initiatives."Ī 2009 study from MIT indicates that young people are interested in STEM at an early age, but begin to lose interest as they become older due to a lack of interaction with mentors and role models in the STEM fields. "The decline of interest in STEM careers is disappointing given how much emphasis is being placed on promoting STEM to girls," said Jack Kosakowski, President and CEO of Junior Achievement USA. The survey of 1,004 teens was conducted from April 16 to 21, 2019. Teen boys' interest in STEM careers increased slightly to 27 percent, up from 24 percent in 2018. ![]() This is down from 11 percent from a similar survey in 2018. In addition, you’ll be able to capture full-frame (4,264 x 2,408) 16-bit RAW video externally via the full-sized, Type a HDMI port, though Sony didn’t say which external recorders will be supported. For HDR shooters, it’ll also capture 10-bit HLG with 4 presets and let you record 1080p/720p proxies at the same time. If you use Sony’s S-Log2/S-Log3 picture profiles, you’ll see up to 15+ stops of dynamic range, far more than most other consumer cameras. That’s possible thanks to a new heat management structure built into the camera. In addition, Sony has tested 4K 60p capture at up to one hour, though it said there’s no recording time limit in theory. That bests the maximum 400 Mbps you can capture on Panasonic’s GH5, for instance. The A7S III will record video internally with up to 10-bit, 4:2:2 color sampling and a maximum of 600 Mbps in its XAVC All-Intra (H.264) format. In a demo I saw, it was barely noticeable. And while rolling shutter was a problem with the A7S II, the A7S III has double the readout speed for three times less rolling shutter. It can capture 4K video at up to 120 fps and full HD at 240 fps, with a full sensor readout and no pixel binning in all video modes. “I undesrtand now why the Sony a7sIII doesn’t feature 4K DCI, shutter angle, Synchro Scan, and all the bells and whistles of real cine cameras. While the A7S III doesn’t offer 8K like Canon’s latest EOS R5 (or even 6K), it now offers top-notch 4K specs. The 8K I am less interested in and the 4K/120p is already done very well by the Sony A7S III.ĮOSHD forum users have been quick to point out however that the A7S III suspiciously lacks a lot of Cinema Line features (and maybe now you know why)! It does have an internal ND – we can speculate that Sony have finally found a way to bring their electronic ND to a small camera of this form factor… That would be marvellous and really set the FX3 apart. ![]() The Canon C70 is the nearest competitor to this but of course isn’t full frame. It nevertheless fully flexes Sony’s imaging technology and demonstrates how far their sensors are ahead of Canon and Nikon. I am not expecting it to be anywhere near as good value for money as the Sigma Fp. This will be a high margin, cheap to manufacture camera for Sony. There’s every chance it could cost a lot more though. If this is to be basically a Sony A1 in a smaller body with more video features then it could be a very attractive option especially if they keep the price down under $4K. ![]() It looks barely any larger than the Sigma Fp, and a lot smaller than the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. The screen is fully articulated, and Sony went for Small with a capital S. It could be there’s an add-on though that can be slotted in on top. Unfortunately that’s not the case and there’s no EVF either. Strange joystick position on the top, which led some to speculate the screen might extend the full width of the back like the long promised and not delivered Sharp 8K mirrorless camera. I like the gunmetal grey finish from the CineAlta series, much nicer than the A7C.Īs you can see, this is an A7C on steroids and the first merging we’ve seen of the Sony Cinema Line with Alpha mirrorless form factor. Here it is pictured in the wild by somebody leakier than a bucket with no bottom… It’s expected to inherit the 8K full frame sensor of the recently announced A1, whilst packing in many of the same codec options and video features of the FX6. The Sony A7C is getting a huge upgrade for filmmakers. ![]() ![]() As shown in the following table, the range of events types greatly expands Enterprise Manager's monitoring flexibility. ![]() For example, a metric alert raised by threshold violation has a specific payload whereas a job state change has a different structure. Why are Closed Captions and Subtitles Important?Īlthough closed captioning vs subtitles are different in a lot of ways, they are both very important to the video production industry.Ĭlosed captions open up a whole world of entertainment to deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers. Unlike closed captions, subtitles do not contain non-speech elements such as background sounds or sound effects. Subtitles involve translating video content such as motion pictures, television programs or short-form video content from its native language to the audience's language or providing an alternative way to understand the video without the use of audio. If you’ve seen a foreign film, muted your phone or laptop, then you’ve used subtitles to understand the dialogue of video content. The stenographer listens to the broadcast and types a shorthand version of what’s being said, as well as spoken audio, then a program converts it into captions that get added to the television signal, ultimately appearing on the audience’s television screen. Most television programs are captioned in advance, but other programs such as live broadcasts require live captioning done by a stenographer. Every TV in the US (unless yours is older than 1993), has a built-in caption decoder with the option to turn them on and off. What are Closed Captions?ĭeveloped for hearing-impaired individuals, closed captions are a text version of what’s being spoken and heard in video content such as tv programs, movies or presentations, usually, in the same language it's being broadcasted in. ![]() But what’s the difference between closed captioning vs subtitles? And why are they so important?Ĭontinue reading to learn more about closed captions, subtitles, how they combat muted devices and understand the importance of accessibility in media. You can also write out your captions or subtitles in any text editor, but you will need to make sure that you are using correct formatting.Closed captioning and subtitles are common tools in the world of video production. The easiest way to create captions is to use a free subtitle generator like Amara Public or Aegisub. You have to not only type out each audible sound, but also write out where in the video it appears as well as note the order of the captions. However, this can be a time-consuming process. You can check your video’s generated captions on YouTube studio and edit any that are incorrect.Ĭonversely, you can also create closed captions as an SRT file and upload it with your video. For example, YouTube can automatically generate closed captions and subtitles in 10 different languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian. Many platforms include automatic video captioning features. For further information, you can read this article on closed captions. Here are a few ways that you can add captions or subtitles to video. Unfortunately, regulators do not have the tools necessary to do that without collateral damage. Regulators’ goal is to reduce the AppStore fees Apple charges developers and to eliminate anticompetitive behavior in support of Apple’s own applications. Its anticompetitive behavior has drawn public attention out of proportion with the damage it causes. Regulators may seek easier targets to get an early win and Apple is positioned to be that target. The big targets are Amazon, Google and Facebook, but regulating those companies will be complex and time consuming, as some of the worst harms are not covered by current statutes. Thirty patients posted for elective short surgeries from Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, general surgery and Orthopaedics receiving ketamine with midazolam as an anesthetic agent were enrolled in our study. This study was an open-label, prospective, observational study conducted at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry, India, by the Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with Department of Anesthesia between March and August 2014. In view of these attributes, the present study was designed to evaluate the effect of low dose intravenous midazolam as premedication in attenuating ketamine-induced hemodynamic instability and postanesthetic emergence delirium. Though studies are available with other premedication drugs used for ketamine anesthesia, limited data are available regarding the usefulness of the low dose midazolam combined with low-dose ketamine in preventing ketamine-induced hemodynamic instability and postanesthetic emergence phenomenon. Literature suggests that compared with a combination of ketamine with other benzodiazepines (diazepam, lorazepam), midazolam premedication results in fewer emergence reactions. ![]() ![]() Midazolam when combined with intravenous ketamine found to be safe and effective for relief of anxiety and sedation for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Midazolam has potent anxiolytic effect with amnesia, sedation, skeletal muscle relaxant activity, and good hemodynamic stability with lack of significant side effects in doses <0.5 mg/kg. But every benzodiazepine has its own disadvantage: More prolonged impairment of mental activity and amnesia with flunitrazepam slower onset of action and delayed recovery with lorazepam higher incidence of unpleasant dreams with diazepam.
